Subject: UCC Committee Meeting Minutes
Date: Mon, 6 May 1996 13:12:00 +0800
X-Venue: loft@cameron-hall.gu.uwa.edu.au
X-Present: [JEB] (James Bromberger - Pres.), [DGC] (David Chinnery -
Treas.), [DUC] (Duncan Sargeant - OCM), [NTU] (Nick Bannon -
Sec.), [SAF] (Simon Fryer - HWO), [K?Y] (Kym Yeap - Fresher
Rep.), [MJH] (Mikolaj Habryn), [BBB] (Barnaby Brown - OCM),
[MTL] (Mark Tearle), [YAK] (Ian McKellar), [TDH] (David
	Manchester - HWO), Craig Richmond.

President's report: Bing.

Treasurer's report: Positive.
Various recent expenditure, including a Perl book ($60).

Machine reports:
  mackerel: Stagnant.
Serial board: Is mulloway's card potentially suitable? it has been
previously plugged in upside down, which broke it, and now gives
interrupt errors. Probably not useful or worth repairing/
      cannibalising.
    Upgrade: No news.
ACTION: [NTU]/[TDH] to poke Jeff Miller again.
SCSI cables: $90. Can't seem to do money orders except in $US.
ACTION: Two signatories to get a bank cheque organised.

marlin: Occasionally people seem to be logged in long after their
processes die. This is a problem with screen - Luyer probably knows
    how to fix it.
We'd probably like to stripe swap over more than one disc when we
    reinstall the OS.

moray: There's a process hogging its CPU. Kill it.

starfish: We have a SunOS 4.1.1 CD, which Luyer and [MTL] copied to
typhaon. Craig should have one in his office if this one isn't
    suitable.

Backup: Right. Let's burn one CD, for the most important stuff (not
including the home directories) this week.
Oops - the GCL CD-burner is dead as of two days ago. D'oh!
Can we borrow a DAT drive?
We have around 1/2 a Gb of vital stuff to backup.
We could buy and use a HDD for backup...
We already have most of an Eagle free...

PS/2s: There are some faulty PS/2's/bits available. We'd like them.

New PC: Around $1850 for a P-100, 32MB, 1Gb EIDE, VGA, mono monitor,
  ex tax.
Build from parts instead? Could save hundreds - savings go into a six
slot MB or 64MB of RAM...?
ACTION: Get together tomorrow, at 11am, choose a system and start to
buy components. [NTU] to announce this on the list.

UCC Camp: Nothing. Lack of interest shown. Now on hold.
Hmmm... We could just live in the loft for a weekend!

Vending machine: Playing with new 68HC11 board. Need a UNIX front end
  from Luyer.

Shenton Park: Email address to list. Should take current inventory
along on dead trees, and add detail/items.

Printer toner: Terry has seen some in Big W - buy it? Yes. Printouts
should be about 12 cents a page.

Power: "More Power!". Don't bother getting a clamp meter. We need more
  4-way power boards.

Mailing lists: We have a working majordomo listserver. We can move the
UCC list to a UCC machine at will. We won't until we get the new PC,
  though.
Another mass-subscribe for UCC-Announce is due.

Membership forms: Should be re-examined, checking for 1995 forms that
  are actually for 1996 memberships.

Gaffa tape: Buy some.

Games night: Need access to Marathon and serial numbers - oops.
Ask on list who is planning on bringing IBMs in.

Squirrels: Fnoo.

(void) set_all(NULL);

Gerbils: Intact.
