Flame
It isn't a MUD. It isn't IRC. It isn't a chat room. It's flame.
Flame is a bulletin board system that just happens to be implemented as a MUD. It is many things to many people:
- a place you can visit and say nothing at all,
- a social life substitute,
- a place to hack your soul,
- a virtual party-zone
To connect to flame, telnet to flame.ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au on port 4242
If you're stuck behind a firewall, you can telnet to any port on flame-tunnel.ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au.
Flame still runs a gopher server, of course, it also runs a web server.
History
Flame started in 1990 as a Remote Access BBS. It appeared in the Australian BBS listings in the March 1991 edition of Your Computer magazine (page 90). In 1992 it became a MUD, still also connected to the telephone line the BBS had previously used.
